The Pawleys Island Rope Hammock's story traces back to the Carolina Low Country more than 130 years ago. It was there that Joshua John Ward, a riverboat captain, sought a comfortable night's sleep during the sultry summer months. With some rope, wood, and a touch of determination, he crafted what would become the foundation of our company - the original rope hammock, a hand-woven bed suspended between two wooden spreader bars.

Over the decades, we've witnessed countless imitations of this design, but there has only ever been one true Original. What makes our products unique? Our proprietary DuraCord rope blends the softness of cotton with the durability of polyester, resulting in an all-weather, rot, mold, and mildew-resistant material that has been dyed throughout. The Oak spreader bars, repeatedly hand-dipped in a honey-gold marine-grade varnish, offer exceptional strength and a handsome appearance.

The Double-Latch Weave technique employed by our skilled weavers produces a lattice-like design that eliminates the need for knots within the rope bed, while also allowing us to use 15% more rope than our competitors, providing a sturdier hammock for complete relaxation.

Our attention to detail extends to the hardware as well, with all hanging components zinc-plated to prevent rust and ensure long-lasting outdoor use.
