The Pawleys Island Rope Hammock story dates back over 130 years to the Carolina Low Country. Joshua John Ward, a riverboat captain, sought a comfortable night's sleep during the sultry summer months. With some rope, wood, and determination, he crafted what would become the foundation of our company - the rope hammock, a hand-woven bed with wooden spreader bars and a clew knot for hanging.

What makes our products unique? Our use of DuraCord, a solution-dyed synthetic blend that balances the softness of cotton with the durability of polyester, resulting in an all-weather rope resistant to rot, mold, and mildew. The oak spreader bars, repeatedly hand-dipped in honey-gold marine-grade varnish, are naturally resistant to rot and insect infestation, ensuring a longer outdoor life and exceptional appearance.

The Double-Latch Weave technique employed by our highly trained weavers produces a lattice-like design, eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed and allowing us to use 15% more rope than our competitors, creating a sturdier hammock bed for complete relaxation.

We plate all our hardware, including the tree hooks, with a zinc coating to prevent rust and ensure a longer outdoor life. Our one-piece ring-knot and chain, a product of years of development, permanently attaches the chain to the O-ring, making the hammock more durable and preventing the loss of the chain.
